Frederick Gordon Laughton was born in New York City and devoted much of his life to military service. He served seven years in the U.S. Army and then nineteen years in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a photographer and flew 30 combat missions during the Vietnam War.
After retiring from the Air Force, Frederick returned to Sebastopol, California, where he lived with his wife, Yvonne Julie Wren Laughton. He passed away in 1983 at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco after a long illness at the age of 64. A full Air Force Honor Guard honored him at San Francisco National Cemetery at the Presidio.
Frederick was survived by his wife Yvonne; daughters Nancy Belluomini of Novato and Anne Marie Spoon of Santa Rosa; sons Eric Laughton of Sebastopol and Mark Laughton of Lexington, North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Jeanette “Jenny” Wren of Sebastopol; and five grandchildren
